Pawtastic turnout at Dogs on Patrol, Oxley

Cats were forgiven for finding somewhere else to be yesterday around Nixon Park in Oxley as 250 happy and excited dogs (and their families) attended the Dogs on Patrol event.

A glorious August day greeted our four-legged friends as they mingled and led their families to all sorts of dog related stands that included dog chiropractic and massage, photography, obedience schools, qualified trainers and pet stores.

Families were not left out with live entertainment from local music groups, a face painting stall, a sausage sizzle ran by our hard working Neighbourhood Watch groups and of course, a Sunday morning favourite… a coffee van.

Police Dog Sarge was a big hit with the little ones and not such a big hit for the real dogs.

The event coincided with the official opening of a new basketball court and fitness area, with personal trainer and former Brisbane Bullets player, Andre Moore giving the kids a few pointers.

Local police were also on hand, as our extremely dedicated Jindalee Volunteer in Policing crew churned out 107 dog tags engraved with the dog’s name and contact phone number, whilst Community Supporting Police were also in attendance.

The overwhelming message from police and Neighbourhood Watch is that while walking your dog, you can play a vital crime prevention role by observing and reporting suspicious behaviour.
